Teacher Appreciation Week


WHEREAS, strong and effective public schools are essential to the economic prosperity of Virginia and help ensure that we continue to make social, technological, and scientific advancements; and

WHEREAS, passionate, dedicated teachers are critical to the success of our students and are fundamental to the strength of our Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, teachers across Virginia have risen to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and provided unwavering support to their students in all of the Commonwealth’s 132 school divisions; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s teachers exhibit unwavering devotion to student success and are entrusted with helping our students reach their full academic potential; and

WHEREAS, teachers exemplify patience and understanding in high-pressure situations, proving their resilience, selflessness, and care for their students; and

WHEREAS, Virginia teachers have worked countless hours to support their students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being  during the unexpected school closure and public health crisis; and

WHEREAS, teachers are essential to empowering families and communities to support our children; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Lottery, the source of more than $10 billion for public schools since 1999, is partnering with The Supply Room and the Virginia PTA for the sixth annual “Thank a Teacher” campaign to encourage Virginians to send thank you notes to teachers across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity for Virginians to thank teachers for the critical role they play in shaping our children and the future of the Commonwealth;

WHEREAS, Virginia expresses their sincere gratitude to all teachers for their service and dedication and unimaginable commitment to maximize the potential of all learners in the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 3 – 7, 2021, as TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
