WHEREAS, telework is an employee-friendly and business-friendly strategy that promotes workforce performance and improves morale, retention, and productivity of employees; and
WHEREAS, businesses offering a telework program expand the pool of prospective employee candidates in a competitive and challenging job market; and
WHEREAS, telework alleviates traffic congestion, reduces our consumption of fuel, and improves air quality; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and the Virginia Department of Transportation provides incentives for new or expanded telework programs to businesses in the immediate areas impacted by the construction of the Interstate 66 and Interstate 395 Express Lanes projects; and
WHEREAS, DRPT’s Telework!VA program (www.teleworkva.org) provides a one-stop resource for businesses, individuals, and government agencies seeking to learn more about telework; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s businesses are encouraged to allow qualifying employees to telework at least one day during Telework Week and enjoy the benefits of reduced travel congestion, enhanced work-life balance, and continued economic growth;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize March 4-8, 2019, as TELEWORK WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
