WHEREAS, telework is a family-friendly, business-friendly strategy that promotes workforce efficiency, improves recruitment, retention, and productivity of employees; and
WHEREAS, telework helps alleviate congestion and improves the efficiency of the transportation system by reducing the number of cars on highways; and
WHEREAS, teleworking can be an economically and environmentally wise choice by reducing our consumption of fuel and improving air quality; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation and Virginia Department of Transportation are providing incentives for new or expanded telework programs to businesses in the immediate areas impacted by the construction of the I-66 and I-395 Express Lanes projects; and
WHEREAS, DRPT’s Telework!VA program provides a one-stop resource for businesses, individuals, and government agencies seeking to learn more about telework; and
WHEREAS, Virginians are encouraged to telework at least one day during Telework Week and enjoy the benefits of reduced travel congestion, higher quality of life, and continued economic growth;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize March 5-9, 2018, as TELEWORK WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
