WHEREAS, the vending and convenience services industry employs over one hundred and forty thousand Americans and generates an economic output of nearly $25 billion annually, including employing over four thousand Virginians and contributing over $600 million to the Commonwealth's economy annually; and
WHEREAS, the vending machine industry has expanded in recent decades to include a wide array of convenience services and refreshments, recently launching a national public health commitment; and
WHEREAS, the vending machine industry uses cutting edge technology to deliver innovative options to consumers; and
WHEREAS, through the Randolph-Sheppard Vending Program, the vending industry has provided crucial business opportunities for blind persons in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the National Automatic Merchandising Association has designated March 5th as “National Vending Day;” and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is thankful for the dozens of small business owners who own and operate vending machine companies in Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize March 5, 2020, as VENDING DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
