WHEREAS, in 1991, The Virginia Counselors Association Foundation (VCAF) was incorporated to "accept, acquire, and receive property...to promote and foster education in the field of personnel and guidance, now known as counseling”, and has supported the professional development of Counselors in the Commonwealth for thirty years; and
WHEREAS, the five initial directors of the VCAF were John R. Cook, D.L. "Pete" Warren, Libby R. Hoffmann, Gaye Whitlock and Ellen Chewning; and
WHEREAS, for thirty years, The VCAF has supported the profession of Counseling in Virginia through support for keynote speakers and award recognitions at Virginia Counselors Association Conventions; and
WHEREAS, The VCAF has promoted innovation in School and Mental Health Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia through the awarding of the Suzee D. Leone Grants for school and community counseling initiatives; and
WHEREAS, The VCAF has supported the professional and leadership development of counselors new to the Counseling Profession through the Pete Warren Fellows program, the VCA Leadership Academy, and the addition of a membership scholarship program, which is focused on increasing inclusion of members from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize November 1-8, 2021, as VIRGINIA COUNSELORS ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
