WHEREAS, in 1921, the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers, also known as the Virginia PTA, was chartered as the 39th Congress by the National PTA; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia PTA is dedicated to children’s educational success, health, and well-being through strong family and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia PTA works to achieve its mission by inviting community members to join their local units and to have their voices heard in support of Virginia’s children; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia PTA advocates for laws and policies that further the education, physical and mental health, well-being, and safety of children and youth in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and other likeminded associations and partnerships; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia PTA has established relationships with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Virginia Lottery, Virginia Public Education Coalition (VPEC), Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS), Virginia High School League (VHSL), Virginia Middle School Association (VMSA), Commonwealth Connects, Virginia Promise Partnership, Commission on African American History Education, and Virginia Coalition for Fine Arts to promote the collaboration and engagement of families and educators; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Virginia PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children and to engage the public in united efforts to secure the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of all children and youth, as well as to promote support of teachers and staff in Virginia’s public schools;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize March 20-27, 2021, as VIRGINIA PTA 100TH ANNIVERSARY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
