WHEREAS, women and girls comprise more than half of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s total population; and
WHEREAS, the wellness of Virginia’s female population is vital to the well-being of our Commonwealth’s families, businesses, and communities; and
WHEREAS, it is important for women and girls to learn and cultivate healthy habits to increase the likelihood of living productive, happy, and healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, many health issues disproportionately affect women, including breast, lung, and other cancers, cardiovascular disease, reproductive health barriers, mental health challenges, and surviving sexual and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, ensuring women and girls wellness requires a holistic approach including cultivating healthy emotional well-being and working to reduce environmental stress and trauma in our communities; and
WHEREAS, many Virginia-based organizations offer services, conduct research, and collaborate with state agencies to advance female health and wellness; and
WHEREAS, the health and wellness of Virginia’s females is an important metric of our Commonwealth’s success; and
WHEREAS, we should celebrate the importance of women and girls as a vital part of our; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize April 2021 as WOMEN AND GIRLS’ WELLNESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
