WHEREAS, women and girls comprise more than half of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s total population; and
WHEREAS, the wellness of Virginia’s female population is vital to the well-being of our Commonwealth’s families, businesses and communities; and
WHEREAS, it is important for women and girls to learn and cultivate healthy habits to increase the likelihood of their living productive, happy, and healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, many health issues particularly affect women, including breast, lung, and other cancers, cardiovascular disease, reproductive health, mental health, and sexual and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, many Virginia-based organizations offer programs and services and conduct research that benefit female health and wellness, and many also collaborate with the Women’s Health Virginia Network to promote women and girls’ wellness; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize the importance of women and girls’ health to the continued well-being of Virginians and the prosperity of the Commonwealth and its communities;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize April 2018 as WOMEN & GIRLS’ WELLNESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
