Women's Lung Health Week


WHEREAS, lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 112,000 women will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2018, and 70,500 women will die as a result of lung cancer; and

WHEREAS, advocacy and increased awareness will increase screenings, early detections, and the availability of quality treatment for women with lung cancer and other lung diseases, which will save lives; and

WHEREAS, LUNG FORCE, the national movement led by the American Lung Association, unites women to stand together with strength and determination to lead the fight against lung cancer and for lung health; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is committed to increasing research and awareness of lung cancer;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 6-12, 2018, as WOMEN’S LUNG HEALTH WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
