247th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, on November 10, 1775, the United States Continental Marines were founded by our nation’s leaders to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, provide shipboard security and discipline enforcement, and assist in landing forces; and,

WHEREAS, for 247 years, members of our United States Marine Corps have served with the utmost courage in almost every conflict that our country has faced; and,

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is proud to be home to more than 26,000 Marines and their families stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Headquarters Marine Corps, the Pentagon and other locations throughout Virginia; and,

WHEREAS, the men and women serving in the United States Marine Corps and the families who support them make great sacrifices in defense of our nation; and,

WHEREAS, Marines exhibit honor, integrity, and personal courage, and maintain an unyielding dedication to duty; and,

WHEREAS, today, we celebrate the continued strength, professionalism, and valor of our ready and resilient Marines in the all-volunteer force, and observe November 10 as the birthday of the United States Marine Corps;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize November 10, 2022, as the 247TH BIRTHDAY OF THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
