WHEREAS, September is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to raise awareness of childhood cancer and honor the children and families affected by these diseases; and

WHEREAS, childhood cancer remains a leading cause of death by disease among children and adolescents, and continued research is essential to developing safer and more effective treatments; and

WHEREAS, children with cancer and their families face significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s health care professionals, researchers, nonprofit organizations, and communities provide critical care and support to children with cancer and their families; and

WHEREAS, we honor the courage of children fighting cancer, celebrate survivors, remember those who have lost their lives, and recognize the families, caregivers, health care professionals, researchers, and advocates who support them;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 2026 as CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
