Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Chronic Disease Month
WHEREAS, chronic diseases are defined broadly as conditions that last one year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both; and
WHEREAS, chronic disease affects hundreds of thousands of individuals throughout Virginia and more than 130 million people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, chronic diseases and conditions, including cardiovascular issues, some types of cancer, diabetes, and obesity, are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems; and
WHEREAS, widespread awareness of chronic disease, increased community engagement, and ongoing advocacy are critical to improving patients’ quality of life and access to care; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Month is intended to raise awareness and advocate for patient-first policies throughout the Commonwealth and the nation, as well as to promote actionable resources to reduce individual risk and lower the rate of chronic disease in America; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Month promotes the best practices of self-care in efforts to reduce individual risk;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 2025, as CHRONIC DISEASE MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
