Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Chronic Migraine Awareness Day
WHEREAS, there are more than 300 medically recognized headache diseases, including cluster headaches and migraines that affect thousands of individuals throughout Virginia and millions throughout the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the migraine disease is a genetic, neurobiological disease characterized by episodes called attacks; and,
WHEREAS, approximately 60 million Americans have migraine disease, of which 4 million have chronic migraines, experiencing fifteen or more migraine attacks each month; and,
WHEREAS, migraines are the second leading cause of global disability and most disabling for adult women under age 50; and,
WHEREAS, approximately one in 1,000 people in the United States suffer from cluster headache disease, medically referred to as the most painful condition a human can experience; and,
WHEREAS, those living with one or more headache diseases and/or comorbid medical conditions are in need of innovative treatments; and,
WHEREAS, awareness of chronic migraine disease can lead to early interventions, improved health outcomes and quality of life for individuals suffering from migraines and cluster headaches;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 29, 2022 as CHRONIC MIGRAINE AWARENESS DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
