By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Clog Dancing Day in the Old Dominion

WHEREAS, the multifaceted art form of clog dancing reflects the rich cultural heritage of our nation, representing a fusion of European, Native American, and African influences and exemplifying the American spirit—a tradition worthy of preservation through documentation, archival support, and performance; and

WHEREAS, clog dancing in all its forms—including flatfooting, buck dancing, jig dancing, step dancing, and power tap—has played a historic and ongoing role in shaping American social culture, with deep roots in schools, 4-H programs, community events, and competitions; and

WHEREAS, this traditional dance has left its mark on American entertainment for centuries, gracing everything from hometown porches to Broadway stages, the Grand Ole Opry, international folk festivals, and feature films; and

WHEREAS, clog dancing is a joyful and inspirational expression of creativity and culture that brings enjoyment, exercise, and self-expression to both amateur and professional dancers around the world; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Commonwealth and the nation to preserve, promote, and celebrate this uniquely American art form for future generations; and

WHEREAS, Clog Dancing Day offers an opportunity to spotlight and celebrate American clogging, encouraging participation in its uplifting rhythms and honoring the enduring cultural impact of this cherished tradition; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is proud to be home to many citizens who enjoy and find community through clogging, and it is fitting that we designate a day to honor all cloggers, past and present;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize August 8, 2025, as CLOG DANCING DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
