Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Custodian Day
WHEREAS, National Custodian Day is observed on October 2 each year as a way to recognize and appreciate the countless hours custodians dedicate to caring for the safety and comfort of Virginians; and
WHEREAS, custodians are the unsung heroes who work diligently behind the scenes to provide clean and sanitary workplaces, schools, churches and other gathering places; and
WHEREAS, custodians working with state facilities are responsible for thousands of buildings in Virginia state government; and
WHEREAS, custodians working with the Department of General Services maintain historically significant buildings at the seat of government; and
WHEREAS, the work they do ensures that our Capitol Square facilities are welcoming to the public; and
WHEREAS, their jobs are physically demanding, often completed after normal business hours; and
WHEREAS, the work they do helps to protect the health of the people who work in or visit our facilities; and
WHEREAS, we are proud of the work they do and appreciate their service to the Commonwealth of Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 2, 2024, as CUSTODIAN DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
