Direct Support Professionals Week

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the primary providers of publicly funded, long-term support and service for millions of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DSPs provide individuals with daily living assistance that fosters a stable environment for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DSPs build close, respectful, and trusted relationships with the individual, their families, and the community they live in; and

WHEREAS, DSPs are integral to helping individuals with disabilities live successfully in their communities, avoiding more costly institutional care; and

WHEREAS, the participation of DSPs in medical planning is integral to a successful transition from medical events to post-acute care and long-term support and services; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes Direct Support Professionals for their hard work and the positive impact they have on Virginians with disabilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 8-14, 2024, as DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
