Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Father's Day
WHEREAS, fatherhood is a gift that requires commitment and dedication to raising and preparing children to grow into productive, positive adults; and
WHEREAS, fathers provide endless love and support for their children that offers them the needed comfort and strength to face life’s challenges; and
WHEREAS, the role of a father is not limited to a biological parent, as father figures are often uncles, grandfathers, elder brothers, family friends, teachers, coaches, or others; and
WHEREAS, fathers teach by demonstrating the values of love, trust, work, responsibility, and faithfulness to family and others; and
WHEREAS, fathers have the skill and strength to meet the needs of a family and the discernment to recognize a child’s need for unconditional parental love; and
WHEREAS, fathers impart to their sons and daughters a sense of heritage, duty, and responsibility as part of their family, friends, community, and country; and
WHEREAS, fathers assume their various family roles out of love, admiration, and sense of duty toward their family responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, we set aside the third Sunday in June to honor our fathers and father figures, whether their children are by birth, adoption, or foster care, for their valuable contributions and selfless sacrifice on behalf of each of us, our nation, and the Commonwealth, as they strengthen the Spirit of Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 16, 2024, as FATHER’S DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
