Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Filipino American History Month
WHEREAS, the Filipino American community has made significant contributions to the history, culture, and economy of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is home to a proud and vibrant Filipino American community that has bolstered the Commonwealth in the realms of art and music, business and finance, law and government, education and social service, and science and medicine; and
WHEREAS, Filipino Americans have a long and proud history of service in the United States military, with many of them serving in the armed forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, during World War II, more than 260,000 Filipino and Filipino American soldiers answered the call to action and bravely served and sacrificed alongside American soldiers; and
WHEREAS, the Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act unanimously passed through Congress and was signed into law in December of 2016; and
WHEREAS, Filipino American History Month celebrates and recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 2024, as FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
