Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month
WHEREAS, every five minutes, a woman is diagnosed with one of the five gynecologic cancers – cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar – totaling nearly 115,000 Americans each year; and
WHEREAS, many are not diagnosed until the middle to late stages of their disease, resulting in more than 34,000 women dying each year from a gynecologic cancer; and
WHEREAS, gynecologic cancers affect women of all ages, races, and ethnicities; and
WHEREAS, early detection through routine screenings and follow-up with practiced health professionals can prevent certain gynecologic cancers; and
WHEREAS, September is recognized nationally as Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, an observance that promotes awareness and education about prevention, causes, stages, and treatment of the five gynecologic cancers; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 2023, as GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
