Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Learning Disabilities Awareness Month
WHEREAS, acknowledging people with specific learning disabilities and learning how to be supportive strengthens our community; and
WHEREAS, one in five children and adults may have a specific learning disability; and
WHEREAS, specific learning disabilities consist of a range of neurological conditions that interfere with the ability to store, process, or produce information; and
WHEREAS, specific learning disabilities may include dyslexia, dysgraphia, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and other processing disorders; and
WHEREAS, early identification of and programming for students with specific learning disabilities is critical to the individual's wellbeing; and
WHEREAS, as more Virginians become aware, our citizens with learning disabilities will have even greater opportunity to lead full and productive lives and make valuable contributions to our society;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 2023, as LEARNING DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
