By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Military Spouse Appreciation Day

WHEREAS, the strength of our nation’s armed forces comes not just from the brave men and women who serve, but also from their families, who serve alongside them; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is home to more than 70,000 military spouses who are strong and resilient partners; and

WHEREAS, these military spouses facilitate an integral foundation for our armed forces during deployments, reintegration, and resets on behalf of their families and their country; and

WHEREAS, military spouses often must forgo their careers due to military transfers, therefore, the Commonwealth strives to provide consistent and supportive family services, including expediting the occupational and professional licensure process for military spouses, providing assistance with behavioral health, employment, and secondary education, continually investing in our military families; and

WHEREAS, these wives, husbands, and partners continue to make significant contributions to family, schools, communities, the nation, and our Commonwealth, despite prolonged and repeated absences of the service member; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Virginia wish to recognize and honor military spouses, past and present, and pay tribute to the sacrifices these families make to guard our freedoms;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 12, 2023, as MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
