Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Mother's Day
WHEREAS, mothers and mother figures throughout Virginia dedicate themselves to the monumental task of influencing and touching the lives of children, families, and communities throughout our Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the first love known to a child is most often the love of a mother, a bond that surpasses the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual; and
WHEREAS, motherhood transcends biological ties as it embodies love, compassion, and selflessness, regardless of genetics; and
WHEREAS, motherly devotion to the well-being of a child is sacrificial as she puts the needs of the child above her own; and
WHEREAS, maternal nurturers offer arms as a refuge, hands that provide care, and hearts that overflow with unconditional love; and
WHEREAS, motherly guidance and instruction shape the moral fabric and character of our young Virginians by teaching them kindness, compassion, humility, and honesty – qualities needed for tomorrow’s successful leaders; and
WHEREAS, many women – including stepmothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, foster mothers, adoptive mothers, counselors, teachers, and friends – offer motherly love and maternal support, the kind that nurtures life even without giving birth; and
WHEREAS, we set aside this day each year to express love and respect for the incredible women who play pivotal roles in our lives and to reflect on their importance in strengthening the Spirit of Virginia; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 11, 2025, as MOTHER’S DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
