Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Week
WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often debilitating, disease of the central nervous system that afflicts nearly one million people in the United States; and
WHEREAS, MS typically strikes young people between the ages of 20 and 40, affecting twice as many women as men; and
WHEREAS, symptoms of MS can start as tingling, numbness in the limbs or nerves, pain, loss of mobility, coordination and vision and progress to paralysis; and
WHEREAS, the exact cause of multiple sclerosis is unknown and there is no known cure; and
WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Week provides an opportunity to increase education and awareness of this disease to assist individuals to lead more productive and satisfying lives for the benefit of themselves, their caregivers, their families, and the entire community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 9-15, 2025, as MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS EDUCATION AND AWARENESS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
