By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Music In Our Schools Month

WHEREAS, music played an important role in the lifecycle of humans creating musical instruments 35,000 years ago with the flute as one of the oldest musical instruments; and

WHEREAS, music education is part of a well-rounded education for every student; and

WHEREAS, music education shapes the way our students understand themselves and the world around them, allowing for an engagement with learning and playing instruments; and

WHEREAS, music educators, students, and communities throughout Virginia demonstrate the importance of quality music education programs to the lives of young people; and

WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education as Music In Our Schools Month®, encouraging communities across the nation to focus on music education; and

WHEREAS, Music In Our Schools Month reminds us that school is where all children should have access to music; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of this celebration is to raise awareness of the lasting positive impact of music education on the academic, social, emotional, and personal growth of our students; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia joins our music students, educators, and communities in celebrating the power of music education;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 2023, as MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
