By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

National Day of Prayer

WHEREAS, a National Day of Prayer was first declared by the First Continental Congress in 1775 with a public law being established by the United States Congress in 1952, setting aside a day each year, in keeping with our heritage, for our nation to come together and pray; and,

WHEREAS, in 1988, the United States Congress and President Reagan amended the 1952 public law to affirm that it is essential for the nation to pray and designating the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer as will be observed by people throughout the Commonwealth and our nation; and,

WHEREAS, leaders and citizens of our Commonwealth and our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, giving thanks and renewing our reliance on God; and,

WHEREAS, Virginians are encouraged to exercise the freedoms we have to gather and pray in order to unify hearts, communities, our Commonwealth and our nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 5, 2022 as a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
