By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

National Public Health Week

WHEREAS, public health is the practice of preventing disease and promoting good health within groups of people, from small communities to entire countries; and,

WHEREAS, since 1908, the Virginia Department of Health has provided public health services to the residents of and visitors to the Commonwealth of Virginia; and,

WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely threatened the well-being of the people of the Commonwealth for the past two years; and,

WHEREAS, the staff of the Virginia Department of Health has met these unprecedented challenges with tireless and selfless service, leading a coalition of healthcare professionals, community leaders, and dedicated volunteers to protect their fellow Virginia residents from the spread of COVID-19; and,

WHEREAS, public health professionals help communities prevent, prepare for, withstand and recover from the impact of a full range of health threats, including disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases, as well as natural disasters and disasters caused by human activity; and,

WHEREAS, the employees of the Virginia Department of Health have striven to deliver these services in the most inclusive and equitable manner, ensuring that all Virginians received access to prevention, treatment, and care; and,

WHEREAS, in keeping with the 2022 National Public Health Week theme, “Public Health is Where You Are,” the Virginia Department of Health regularly collaborates with a wide range of public and private sector partners to make our communities healthier, stronger and safer; and,

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Health’s collaborative efforts with individuals, communities, health care providers, and policy makers will help the Commonwealth become the healthiest state in the nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize April 4-10, 2022, as NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
