By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder Awareness Month

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes March as Neuromyelitis Opticia Spectrum Disorder Awareness Month, a month to spread awareness of this rare and debilitating autoimmune disease and support those affected; and

WHEREAS, Neuromyelitis Opticia Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) is a rare autoimmune disease that primarily affects the optic nerves and spinal cord and can lead to blindness, paralysis, and other serious complications; and

WHEREAS, early diagnosis and access to specialized treatment are essential to preventing relapses and long-term disability; and

WHEREAS, the Patient Health Alliance works to elevate patient voices, promote awareness of rare diseases, and advocate for policies that improve access to care; and

WHEREAS, raising awareness of NMOSD fosters understanding, research advancement, and support for affected individuals and families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize March 2026, as NEUROMYELITIS OPTICIA SPECTRUM DISORDER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
