By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of the families and communities of the Commonwealth are of the utmost concern and importance to all Virginians; and,

WHEREAS, Virginia maintains a system for defendants and offenders to be supervised in their communities while on pretrial supervision, probation, or parole including after being released from incarceration to community supervision; and,

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole services agencies assist judicial officers with setting and reconsidering bail decisions to assure public safety and court appearance; and,

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole services officers are charged with the duty of helping to preserve the safety of Virginians by maintaining contact with defendants and offenders, supervising their behavior and ensuring their strict adherence to mandated conditions; and,

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole services officers play a critical role in the criminal justice system and partner with numerous stakeholders to ensure that supervised individuals become law-abiding citizens by providing them with employment assistance, educational opportunities, and treatment services; and,

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole services officers are highly trained professionals who create long-lasting public safety and have greatly contributed to Virginia’s consistently low recidivism rate;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 17-23, 2022 as PRETRIAL, PROBATION, AND PAROLE SUPERVISION WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
