By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Problem Gambling Awareness Month

WHEREAS, problem gambling is a behavioral health issue that impacts Americans of all ages, ethnicities, races, and genders; and

WHEREAS, problem gambling has significant societal and economic costs to individuals, families, businesses, and communities; and

WHEREAS, problem gambling is treatable, and treatment is effective in minimizing the harm to both individuals and society; and

WHEREAS, March is designated as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month by the National Council on Problem Gambling; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling, the Virginia Lottery, and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services are working to raise awareness and educate the public about problem gambling, along with the availability and effectiveness of treatment and recovery; and

WHEREAS, several organizations in the Commonwealth have joined the cause as members of the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling to help mitigate the risk to the estimated 2% of Virginians that experience gambling problems;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 2023, as PROBLEM GAMBLING AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
