Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Problem Gambling Awareness Month
WHEREAS, March is designated as Problem Gambling Awareness Month by the National Council on Problem Gambling; and,
WHEREAS, problem gambling is a public health issue that impacts Americans of all ages, ethnicities, races and gender; and,
WHEREAS, problem gambling has significant societal and economic costs to individuals, families, businesses, and communities; and,
WHEREAS, problem gambling is treatable, and treatment is effective in minimizing the harm to both individuals and society; and,
WHEREAS, the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling and the Virginia Lottery are working to raise awareness and public education about problem gambling, along with the availability and effectiveness of treatment; and,
WHEREAS, several organizations in the Commonwealth have joined the cause as members of the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling to help mitigate the risk to the estimated 2% of Virginians that experience gambling problems;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 2022 as PROBLEM GAMBLING AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
