Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Reliable, Affordable, and Clean Energy Week
WHEREAS, clean energy is powering more homes and businesses than ever before in Virginia, and the Commonwealth faces both a challenge and an opportunity to meet growing energy demand with cleaner sources such as nuclear, wind, solar, pumped storage, renewable natural gas, natural gas with emission-reducing technologies, biomass, and hydrogen; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s North Anna and Surry nuclear plants remain the largest producers of zero-emission baseload energy, and Dominion Energy Virginia is evaluating the development of one of the nation’s first small modular reactors at the North Anna site; and
WHEREAS, Virginia continues to lead in renewable and storage infrastructure, with the world’s most powerful pumped storage facility in Bath County, more than 5,600 megawatts of installed solar generation, the 800-megawatt Randolph Solar Project in Charlotte County, and the 2,600-megawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project scheduled for completion in 2026; and
WHEREAS, natural gas, which contributed to a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions over the last 20 years as part of Virginia’s clean energy transition, accounts for 55 percent of Virginia's total in-state electricity generation, and nuclear power supplies 32 percent; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is advancing innovative energy solutions, including technologies that reduce methane emissions and convert organic resources into dispatchable power, while also forging public-private partnerships in energy storage and supporting local clean energy jobs that strengthen regional economies; and
WHEREAS, clean energy has become a key driver of economic growth in Virginia, supporting more than 100,200 jobs in 2024, and citizens are encouraged to learn more, support an all-of-the-above energy strategy, and explore reliable, affordable, and clean energy solutions through the Virginia Department of Energy;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 15–19, 2025, as RELIABLE, AFFORDABLE, AND CLEAN ENERGY WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
