By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Richmond Travel and Tourism Week

WHEREAS, the plentiful historic, cultural, and leisure attractions, along with a welcoming community, help attract more than 16 million people to the Richmond region every year; and

WHEREAS, tourism is an economic engine that supports almost 24,000 jobs in the Richmond region and contributes nearly $2.9 billion to the local economy; and

WHEREAS, hotels in the Richmond region set a new collective record for annual occupancy tax revenue at $30.8 million in fiscal year 2022; and

WHEREAS, regional collaboration helps drive the success of tourism and helps bring more people and groups that support local businesses every day; and

WHEREAS, Richmond Region Tourism is celebrating 40 years of working to attract conventions, meetings, sports tournaments, and visitors to the region; and

WHEREAS, Richmond Region Tourism serves as the destination marketing organization for the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent as well as the City of Richmond, the City of Colonial Heights and Town of Ashland; and

WHEREAS, National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is May 7-13, an observance to celebrate the tourism community and travel’s essential role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, inspiring new businesses, and elevating the quality of life for people every day;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 7-13, 2023, as RICHMOND TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
