School Library Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, the quest for knowledge by school students in Virginia is stimulated and developed through the use of educational resources and services provided by school libraries; and,

WHEREAS, school libraries provide access to a wide variety of necessary educational materials such as books, magazines, digital resources, online resources and information databases, and the technology needed to utilize these resources; and,

WHEREAS, school libraries provide learning activities designed to enhance reading motivation and establish the information literacy skills necessary for lifelong learning; and,

WHEREAS, the full potential of school libraries is dependent upon trained professional school librarians whose varied skills assist teachers and students in effectively using this wide range of information resources; and,

WHEREAS, it is fitting that special recognition be given to school libraries and the role of school librarians in education throughout the state of Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize April 2022 as SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
