School Resource Officer Appreciation Day

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to making schools safe for all students, faculty, staff, and the communities they serve; and

WHEREAS, school resource officers are critical members of the educational community who dedicate their lives to keeping students and schools safe; and

WHEREAS, most school divisions and law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth have entered partnerships to ensure students have a safe place to learn and school personnel are safe to work; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has one of the longest running, most robust school resource officer programs in the nation; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 800 exceptionally trained, dedicated men and women in law enforcement who serve as school resource officers in our elementary, middle, and high schools providing support and encouragement, and serving as role models, law-enforcement officers, and educators;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize February 15, 2023, as SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER APPRECIATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
