By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

The 72nd First Citizen of Virginia Beach - Robert F. McDonnell

WHEREAS, Robert F. “Bob” McDonnell has been a dedicated resident of Virginia Beach for nearly 39 years, raising his five children and serving his community with unwavering commitment; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell completed 38 years of public service, demonstrating exemplary leadership and service as the 71st Governor of Virginia and the 44th Attorney General, leading transformative initiatives that have strengthened economic growth, education, justice, child welfare, and transportation across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell honorably served our nation as a United States Army officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, and further contributed to the community as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Virginia Beach, tirelessly working for public safety; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell has demonstrated a strong devotion to his Catholic faith, which has guided his principles and actions throughout his life of public service; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell remains committed to improving the lives of Virginians by currently holding a position on the board of Delta Star, Inc., and charitable boards including The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Virginians for Reconciliation, Virginia Beach Sister Cities, and Samaritan House Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell’s legacy of leadership and service shines as a symbol of dedication and servant leadership, inspiring others to contribute to the betterment of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Beach Jaycees have recognized Robert F. McDonnell’s significant contributions to the community by naming him the 72nd First Citizen of Virginia Beach, an honor that celebrates his philanthropic efforts and lifelong dedication to public service; and

WHEREAS, Bob McDonnell is a man whose leadership and faithfulness to his local community and the broader Commonwealth helps strengthen the Spirit of Virginia making it the best place to live, work, and raise a family;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize ROBERT F. MCDONNELL, as the 72nd FIRST CITIZEN OF VIRGINIA BEACH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
