Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Virginia Agriculture Trade Day
WHEREAS, Virginia’s farmers and agribusinesses are global leaders in productivity and innovation as they successfully provide food and fiber for the world and drive our state’s economy; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth’s total exports of more than $3.4 billion in agriculture and forestry products in 2024 helped to support hundreds of thousands of good jobs in these industries and related supply chain sectors; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth stands as a leader in agricultural production and exports in the United States, providing a vast array of products that are critical both domestically and internationally, to countries such as Canada, Belgium, United Kingdom, Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan, and many more; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s top export commodities are soybeans, tobacco, poultry, wood products, specialty foods, cotton, and pork; and
WHEREAS, many Virginia commodity exporters have experienced recent growth in export sales such as specialty foods to Germany, Hong Kong, and China, and Virginia wine makers with new export sales to the Nordic region and Latin America; and
WHEREAS, the enhancement of trade relations and the development of new trade agreements are vital for the continued growth and success of Virginia’s agricultural sector; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to raise awareness among consumers, businesses, and policymakers about the challenges and opportunities facing agricultural trade;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 19, 2025, as VIRGINIA AGRICULTURE TRADE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens in recognition of the role that agriculture and cross-border trade plays in our lives and the importance of agriculture and manufacturing to our state’s economy.
