Virginia Apprenticeship Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, Virginia is responding to the many industries and employers who seek to replicate the values of their best employees through the mentorship and instruction of the Registered Apprenticeship model; and

WHEREAS, the occupational training model of Registered Apprenticeship trains novice employees directly by providing safety, structure, supervision, and coaching to develop competencies in the Commonwealth’s participating workforce; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship continues to thrive in traditional trade and industry occupations, and employers in non-traditional industries, such as technology, healthcare, and education are discovering the value of the hands-on training model; and

WHEREAS, educators in the K-12 system with the Virginia Department of Education will create opportunities through the Commonwealth’s groundbreaking teacher apprenticeship program in addition to expanding partnership opportunities in school divisions throughout Virginia through the promotion of high-quality, work-based learning programs such as the Youth Registered Apprenticeship model; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship offers career seekers affordable paths to secure high-paying jobs and progress toward the future workforce; and

WHEREAS, occupations who have traditionally benefited from the quality of instruction and experiential learning are evolving and inviting all potential apprentices to join them; and

WHEREAS, the expansion of the Registered Apprenticeship model is essential to continue to grow Virginia’s workforce and provide opportunities to those who wish to expand upon their skills; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship in Virginia borrows from best practices and remains an invaluable resource to employers and employees alike;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize NOVEMBER 2023, as VIRGINIA APPRENTICESHIP MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
