Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Virginia Chicken Month
WHEREAS, Virginia’s chicken industry provides a total economic impact of $9.6 billion annually to the Commonwealth’s economy and provides approximately 12,000 jobs in the state; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is home to more than 1,100 chicken farms, with Rockingham, Augusta, Page, Shenandoah, and Accomack counties being the top five counties for broiler operations; and
WHEREAS, broiler chickens top the Commonwealth’s 2022 list of commodities when ranked by cash receipts at more than $1.6 billion which ranked Virginia seventh nationally; and
WHEREAS, Virginia-grown chicken is popular overseas as broilers valued at more than $208 million were exported in 2023, helping the national balance of trade; and
WHEREAS, a 3.5 ounce serving of chicken breast provides 165 calories, 31 grams of protein, 3.6 grams of fat and contains all nine essential amino acids; and
WHEREAS, September is recognized as National Chicken Month, and we seek to acknowledge and thank Virginia chicken farmers and their families for producing this protein and their contribution to the economy of Virginia and the nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 2024, as VIRGINIA CHICKEN MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
