By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Day of Prayer

WHEREAS, a National Day of Prayer was first declared by the First Continental Congress in 1775 with a public law being established by the United States Congress in 1952, setting aside a day each year, in keeping with our heritage, for our nation to come together and pray; and

WHEREAS, throughout our nation’s history, Americans of many religions and belief systems have turned to prayer for strength, hope, and guidance; and

WHEREAS, in 1988, the United States Congress and President Reagan amended the 1952 public law to affirm that it is essential for the nation to pray and designate the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer as will be observed by people throughout the Commonwealth and our nation; and

WHEREAS, the theme for the 2025 National Day of Prayer is “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled” based on the verse in Roman 15:13 that is a prayer and a promise, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit;” and

WHEREAS, leaders and citizens of our Commonwealth and our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, giving thanks, and renewing our reliance on God; and

WHEREAS, Virginians are encouraged to exercise the freedoms to gather and pray to unify hearts, communities, our Commonwealth, and our nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 1, 2025, as VIRGINIA DAY OF PRAYER in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
