By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Day of Prayer for Peace

WHEREAS, the power of prayer has uplifted, guided, and provided comfort to people throughout the centuries; and,

WHEREAS, the people of the Commonwealth and our nation turn to prayer in times of joy and sorrow for guidance and strength to live courageously and meaningfully, and for turning the hearts of others towards peace and the common good; and,

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is comprised of people who hold dear ideals of a diverse set of religions and spiritualties, who emphasize the importance of prayer, meditation, and thoughtful reflection; and,

WHEREAS, Virginia’s founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and James Madison understood the importance of faith and worship, and led the fight for religious freedom in our nation, drafting the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom which became the blueprint of our First Amendment protections; and, 

WHEREAS, many in our Commonwealth and country are searching for peace, co-existence, and healing in our homes, communities, and beyond; and,

WHEREAS, Virginians of all faiths and denominations are encouraged to join together in fellowship and communion with our Creator to unify hearts, communities, our Commonwealth and our Nation for peace;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 31, 2022 as VIRGINIA DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
