Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Virginia DRAM Day
WHEREAS, the invention of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) semiconductor technology has continued to play a pivotal role in driving innovation in the Commonwealth and the United States across sectors such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and more; and
WHEREAS, the rapid pace of technological advancements, fueled by the performance and reliability of DRAM chips, has revolutionized industries and transformed our daily lives; and
WHEREAS, the United States aims to increase domestic DRAM production to 40% of all global output in the next decade to enhance U.S. economic and national security by rebuilding a highly complex but critical manufacturing sector; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth’s advanced materials manufacturers employ over 22,000 Virginians and will employ over 1,000 more in semiconductor manufacturing by 2030; and
WHEREAS, Virginia DRAM Day commemorates the invention of DRAM semiconductor technology and the day the DRAM patent was granted on June 4, 1968; and
WHEREAS, Virginia DRAM Day honors the inventor of DRAM, Dr. Robert Dennard, who passed away in 2024, and IBM, whose invention changed computing, the world, and the course of history; and
WHEREAS, Virginia DRAM Day recognizes the importance of DRAM in technology and industry, celebrates DRAM's contributions as a catalyst to economic growth and societal progress, and promotes education and research in memory technology; and
WHEREAS, from artificial intelligence to the Internet of Things, DRAM's versatility will continue to shape the digital landscape, with Virginia serving not only as a center of innovation but also as one of the best places in the United States to start a business;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 4, 2025, as DRAM DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
