By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Essential Tremor Awareness Month

WHEREAS, essential tremor (ET) is the most common neurological movement disorder affecting nearly ten million Americans; and

WHEREAS, often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's Disease, ET is often characterized by rhythmic, involuntary, uncontrollable shaking of the hands and arms during movement, but can also affect the head, voice, legs, and trunk; and

WHEREAS, ET is not a normal result of aging, but an abnormal condition, primarily genetic, affecting all ages including newborns; and

WHEREAS, a progressive condition, ET can significantly affect quality of life socially, professionally, and emotionally by often causing difficulty with dressing, eating, drinking, speaking, or writing; and

WHEREAS, the International Essential Tremor Foundation is the leading organization in the world dedicated to helping those with ET;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize March 2023, as ESSENTIAL TREMOR AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
