By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Life Sciences Week

WHEREAS, the life sciences represent a broad and vital sector encompassing biotechnology, medical devices, agriculture, neuroscience, public health, and more, each contributing to humanity’s well-being through scientific innovation; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is a global hub for technology and innovation, home to six leading R1 research institutions, a dynamic life sciences industry, and a growing biotech workforce advancing innovation in health, food systems, environmental technologies, and biosciences—all focused on the pursuit of improving the human condition; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth recognizes the tireless entrepreneurship, resilience, and public-private collaboration with organizations such as the Manning Institute, the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, and Civica Rx, which collectively advance biomedical innovation and increased access to critical medicines for millions of Americans; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is committed to accelerating the advancement of the life sciences through public-private partnerships, STEM education, workforce development, and sustained investment in research and development across biomedical, agricultural, environmental, and technological domains; and

WHEREAS, promoting awareness and understanding of the life sciences empowers Virginians, investors, educators, and policymakers to make informed decisions in science, medicine, and innovation policy; and

WHEREAS, 2025 marks the inaugural observance of Virginia Life Sciences Week, reflecting the Commonwealth’s growing commitment to leadership and innovation in the life sciences sector;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize August 7-14, 2025, as LIFE SCIENCES WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
