By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Private College Week

WHEREAS, Virginia’s accredited non-profit private colleges and universities complement and strengthen the Commonwealth’s higher education system and are an essential part of Virginia’s goal to prepare every student for success in life; and

WHEREAS, non-profit private colleges and universities contribute $4.6 billion in economic output, nearly 30,000 jobs, and $157 million in state and local tax revenue; and

WHEREAS, non-profit private colleges and universities are centers of learning that educate more than 150,000 students, on-campus and on-line, allowing them to benefit from an array of academic programs, outstanding faculty, small classes, and excellent preparation for a career or graduate school; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s accredited non-profit private colleges and universities are working with community colleges to seamlessly transfer academic credits for their students; and

WHEREAS, Virginia resident eligible full-time undergraduates attending an eligible private college or university in the state receive an annual Tuition Assistance Grant from the Commonwealth of $5,125, and eligible students attending a Virginia accredited non-profit private HBCU receive $7,500; and

WHEREAS, the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) was founded in 1971 and represents twenty-seven accredited non-profit private institutions in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, getting to know campuses is an important step in the college search process, and the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia invites high school students and their families to explore the educational opportunities available at non-profit private colleges during “Virginia Private College Week;” and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 15-20, 2024, as VIRGINIA PRIVATE COLLEGE WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
