By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Spirits Month

WHEREAS, Virginia's distilled spirits industry generates a total economic impact of more than $1.1 billion on the state's economy each year, supporting over 3,000 jobs around the Commonwealth, while helping to boost tourism through the Virginia Spirits Trail; and

 

WHEREAS, the care and craftsmanship of more than 120 licensed Virginia distillers and 81 distillery stores with tasting rooms help position the Commonwealth as a premier destination for high-quality distilled spirits and a vibrant culinary tourism destination; and

 

WHEREAS, enthusiasts and connoisseurs enjoy Virginia's diverse selection of distilled spirits, including whiskey, bourbon, gin, vodka, moonshine, agave spirits, brandy, rum, and a variety of specialty spirits and liqueurs; and

 

WHEREAS, many of Virginia's distillers source more than 70 percent of their agricultural inputs from in-state farmers and use bourbon barrels made from Virginia white oaks to produce their distilled spirits, while collaborating with local breweries, coffee roasters, restaurants, farmers, and other businesses to create distinctive products that showcase the Commonwealth's agricultural resources and craftsmanship; and

 

WHEREAS, Virginia distillers promote the safe and responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages and encourage responsible enjoyment of their products; and

 

WHEREAS, Virginia is for Spirits Lovers and September is recognized as Virginia Spirits Month to celebrate and promote Virginia as the Birthplace of American Spirits;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 2026 as VIRGINIA SPIRITS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
