Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Virginia Turkey Lovers Month
WHEREAS, turkey is celebrated as a traditional holiday food in the United States and enjoyed by Americans throughout the year as part of a healthy, balanced diet; and
WHEREAS, a three-ounce serving of skinless turkey breast is a healthy option as it contains 25 grams of protein, about 125 calories, and is an excellent source of B vitamins and essential minerals; and
WHEREAS, turkey production benefits Virginia’s economy, with cash receipts totaling more than $403 million in 2023, making it Virginia’s fourth highest commodity and ranking the Commonwealth sixth nationally; and
WHEREAS, there are 723 farms across the Commonwealth engaged in growing turkeys, making it a vital component of the poultry industry, which employs nearly 19,000 people around the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Rockingham, Augusta, and Page were the top counties for turkey production in Virginia in 2022 and were responsible for more than 4.5 million of the more than 5 million turkeys produced in the state; and
WHEREAS, purchasing a Virginia-grown turkey supports local farmers and businesses, as well as Virginia agriculture, the state’s largest private industry;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 2025, as VIRGINIA TURKEY LOVERS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
