By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Turkey Lovers Month

WHEREAS, Americans enjoy turkey for holiday and celebratory meals and often consume the protein during other meals throughout the year as part of a healthy, balanced diet; and

WHEREAS, a three-ounce serving of skinless turkey breast is a healthy option as it contains about 125 calories, 25 grams of protein, and is an excellent source of B vitamins and essential minerals; and

WHEREAS, cash receipts for turkeys totaled more than $453 million in 2022, making it Virginia’s third highest commodity; and

WHEREAS, there are 723 farms across the Commonwealth engaged in growing turkeys, making it a vital component of the poultry industry which employs nearly 19,000 people around the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Rockingham, Augusta and Shenandoah were the top counties for turkey production in Virginia and are responsible for more than 12 million of the more than 16 million turkeys produced in the state; and

WHEREAS, purchasing a Virginia grown turkey supports local farmers and businesses, as well as Virginia agriculture, the state’s largest private industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize June 2024, as VIRGINIA TURKEY LOVERS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
