Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Water Safety Month
WHEREAS, swimming and aquatic-related activities play a vital role in improving physical and mental health, as well as enhancing overall quality of life; and
WHEREAS, water safety education plays an essential role in preventing drownings and recreational water-related injuries; and
WHEREAS, the recreational water industry makes contributions to developing safe swimming facilities and aquatic programs to provide safe places to enjoy recreation, learn and grow, build self-esteem, confidence, and sense of self-worth, contributing to quality of life in our community; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing effort and commitment to educate the public on pool and spa safety issues and initiatives by the pool, spa, waterpark, recreation, and parks industries improves safe usage; and
WHEREAS, the vital importance of communicating water safety rules and programs to families and individuals of all ages, whether owners of private pools, users of public swimming facilities, or visitors to waterparks is essential;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 2023, as WATER SAFETY MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
