Your Governor

Abigail D. Spanberger grew up just outside of Richmond, where she learned the value of public service early on from her parents. A proud product of Virginia public schools, Governor Spanberger received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. She also earned an MBA from a dual-degree program between Purdue University and the GISMA business school in Germany.

Governor Spanberger began her career of public service as a federal law enforcement officer — working money laundering and narcotics cases. She then joined the CIA, where she worked undercover her entire time at the Agency as a case officer. Both at home and abroad, Governor Spanberger collected intelligence, managed assets, and oversaw high-profile programs to combat terrorism. She then represented Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for three terms.

Governor Spanberger and Virginia's First Gentleman, Adam Spanberger, are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters.
