By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Arab American Heritage Month

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is home to thousands of Arab Americans who contribute immensely to the growth and development of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Virginians of Arab descent provide leadership and service across the Commonwealth, including fields of medicine, law, business, education, technology, government, and military service; and

WHEREAS, Arab Americans have freely shared their heritage and culture, including a profound legacy of excellence in literature, poetry, and calligraphy that continues to inspire Virginia’s students and artists; and

WHEREAS, the culinary traditions of the Arab world, from the savory spices of the Middle East to the rich flavors of North Africa, have become a beloved part of the Commonwealth’s gastronomic landscape, fostering connection and conversation over shared tables; and

WHEREAS, the spirit of karam or traditional Arab hospitality, has enriched Virginia’s communities, reminding us that the act of welcoming a neighbor is a profound expression of humanity and grace; and

WHEREAS, by proudly passing down ancestral customs and stories to younger generations, Arab Americans ensure that the diverse tapestry of the Commonwealth of Virginia remains strong;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize April 2026, as ARAB AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
